St. Lucie Mets player charged with shoplifting

Source: The Palm Beach Post, Fla.自存倉July 23--A 21-year-old St. Lucie Mets player is facing shoplifting and battery charges after he stole clothes from a local department store and then slammed a loss prevention officer's head on concrete, Port St. Lucie Police said today.In addition to the shoplifting and battery charges, Alex Machillanda Romero of Port St. Lucie also faces charges of resisting a merchant and resisting an officer without violence.Romero plays for the Mets under the name Alex Machillanda as a catcher. He has been in the New York Mets organization since 2010 and was born in Venezuela, according to Minor League Baseball's website.Police were called to the Bealls department store at 1713 Northwest St. Lucie West Blvd. around 6 p.m. Sunday to investigate a case of shoplifting.A loss prevention officer told police that he saw the minor league baseball player pulling clothes off racks and removing their price tags. He then took pictures of迷你倉新蒲崗the clothes and it appeared he was sending the photos via his cell phone, police say.He went into the dressing room with the clothes and he is believed to have hidden the clothes inside a back pack he carried. He then walked out of the store without paying for the hidden clothing.The loss prevention officer tried stopping Romero however Romero punched him and "took him to the ground," police said. Romero slammed the officer's head on the concrete.Romero ran from the scene, however responding police were able to catch up with him.
