Big 5 coming to Barstow

Source: Desert Dispatch, Barstow, Calif.文件倉Aug. 16--BARSTOW -- Sporting goods retailer Big 5 is making its way to Barstow, meaning local athletes don't have to make a trip to the Victor Valley for a broader selection of equipment anymore.Barstow High School head coach Ray Silva thinks Big 5 opening in Barstow is not only good for the city, but all the athletes in the area."I know most kids buy their stuff at Phantom Sports or order online; this is going to give us more options," Silva said. "For my own son, we went to the outlets to find some cleats, but they are hardly sold anywhere, and if you find them there is a small size selection."On Thursday, the city of Barstow and Big 5 finalized the deal to bring the sporting goods retailer to the Barstow Shopping Center, located on the corner of Main and Yucca streets, next door to the 99 Cents Only store. According to assistant city manager Oliver Chi, the store will be ready to open in about six to eight weeks.Chi is excited because there have bee存倉 talks about Big 5 coming to Barstow for about two years."One of the really neat and unique elements in the Barstow community is that is such a big focus on athletics," Chi said. "Such an important component into the community's identity is the athletic ability and pursuits that our community is interested in. Outside of Phantom Sports and Wal-Mart there is no other place in Barstow to acquire sporting good equipment. ... We identified a sporting goods outlet as a important piece to bring to the community."According to Chi, over the last several years, the city council made engaging economic development opportunities a top priority for the city.
