Chang Yong Ter is gaining recognition for himself with 12 local and international design awards this yearIF the name Chang Yong Ter doesn't ring a bell now, it soon will.self storage The founder of CHANG Architects has been fast gaining recognition for himself and also his works - not just in Singapore, but internationally too."My projects have attracted an international audience, through exhibitions and publications, in Asia, the US, and Europe, including Poland and Russia," says Mr Chang. "I have been invited to speak at several occasions, such as for the Archifest Conference, at the World Architecture Festival, at awards ceremonies locally and at the AR House Awards in London. These have provided me valuable exposure and experiences."To top it off, this year Mr Chang has garnered 12 local and international design awards - his biggest haul since starting his firm in 2004.Lucky Shophouse, a residential home in Joo Chiat that was formerly Lucky Bookstore is certainly living up to its name. The home won Mr Chang nine awards including Design of the Year at the President's Design Award, URA Architectural Heritage Award; Green Good Design and The International Architecture awards from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies; and Best Architecture Single Residence at the Asia Pacific Property Awards.Another project at Namly House wo迷利倉 him a prize at the Singapore Institute of Architects' Architectural Design Awards. The same house was also a winner in the Villa category at the World Architectural Festival (WAF), which sees entries from all around the world.His firm was also named Best Architecture Firm, Asia Pacific by European CEO, a leading subscription-based print and online publication.No surprise then when Mr Chang says 2013 has been an "eventful and rewarding year".He adds that to be in the shortlist for WAF is already a feat. "To be top in the Villa category is indeed a humbling experience, as the shortlisted entries from the other continents are all high quality works."It is a far cry from Mr Chang's early days when he started his firm during the Asian financial crisis with no built project to his name."The recognition and awards reaffirm the company's direction as a progressive, design-oriented practice," says Mr Chang. "It is an endorsement of my beliefs in pursuing unique works of architecture that are not only innovative and non-conventional, but relevant to the context and avant-garde in nature, and most importantly, that these works touch souls in one way or another."Those who want to hire him should be prepared to pay.
