Billed as among the most important of the six packages that together make up the 265km Batinah Expressway project, Package 5 covers the stretch from the 180km to the 221km mark. A total of three major bridges will be constructed across wadis intersecting the alignment along this stretch.ABU DHABI BEGINS REGISTERING PERSONAL WATERCRAFT: Abu Dhabi's Department of Transport (DoT) has announced it would begin from next Sunday the registration of personal watercraft (PWC) in the emirate, Gulf Today has reported. "This registration process, as well as decisions issued by Abu Dhabi relating to licensing and registering watercrafts are aimed at optimising the rapidly-growing status of the emirate as one of the key destinations for water sports," said the Acting Director of the Maritime Sector at the DoT.IRAQ AWARDED $21M IN ROADS, BRIDGES CONTRACTS: The Iraqi housing and reconstruction ministry has awarded local and government-owned companies contracts, worth a total of ID25bn ($21.5m), to develop roads and bridges across the country, Iraq Business News has reported. The plan involves the construction of three bridges on the Euphrates in western Iraq and one in Kirkuk province, as well as renovating roads and building new roads in Anbar, Baghdad, Kirkuk, Wasit, Karbala and al-Diwaniyah.ASRY REPORTS $54M IN Q1 REVENUE: Bahrain-based ship and rig repair yard firm Asry has said it has posted the highest first-quarter revenues in the company's history, Gulf Daily News has reported. With revenues of $54m, the yard's first quarter of the financial year revenues have surpassed all previous revenues for the same period since its inception in 1977. The record revenues were nearly equally derived from the two main income sectors in the region, ship repair and offshore repair, Asry said.NAKILAT'S BONDS AFFIRMED BY FITCH AFFIRMS: Qatar Gas Transport Co's (Nakilat) bonds have been affirmed by Fitch Ratings at 'A+'/'A-' with 'Stable' outlook, the Peninsula has reported. The affirmations reflect the project's stable operating and financial performance, the ratings agency said. Nakilat recently completed the refinancing of $917m commercial bank facilities, due in 2019, through the issuance of bank debt for an equal amount maturing in 2025. "Fitch considers the concentration of the refinancing risk on a single year as a weakening of the debt structure, but does not materially impair the project's ability to raise the required debt," said Fitch.JEDDAH CABS TO START USING METERS: The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) has announced metered taxi service is expected to be implemented this week, in an effort to curb overcharging passengers and provide a uniform tariff system, Arab News has reported. "The regulation will be applied in the two upcoming days."OMAN AWARDS ITALFERR RAILWAY PROJECT'S 'PRELIMINARY DESIGN' DEAL: Oman has picked the Italian State Railways Group engineering firm, Italferr, to provide consultancy services for preliminary design for the country's national railway project, Muscat Daily has reported. "In Oman, our company has been awarded the 'consultancy services for preliminary design of the national railway project' valued at about €27m (OR13.58m)," Italferr said. The company was recently awarded by the Saudi Railway Co the preliminary and detailed design contract for the new 960km railway line to link Riyadh with Jeddah, valued at €28m, it said.OMAN & EMIRATES INVESTMENT DIVESTS ADYARD ABUDHABI STAKE: Oman and Emirates Investment Holding Co (OEIH) has said it has sold its 8.13 percent stake in Adyard Abudhabi LLC for OR193,000, in line with its long-term investment strategy, Muscat Daily has reported. "The entire sale amount is the profit on sale of this stake, as the investment is carried at nil value," said the chief executive of OEIH, Awad Mohammed Bamkhalef.AJMAN TO START COLLECTING PARKING FEES ON SHEIKH KHALIFA BIN ZAYED ROAD FROM SATURDAY: Ajman's municipality and planning department has said that starting from Saturday all parking lots on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Road will be paid ones, Gulf Today has reported. The paid parking system will include annual subscription card service, prepaid card service and parking rent service, a municipality official said.RTA TO TURN UMM SUQEIM ROAD INTO AN EXPRESSWAY: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the eastern section of Dubai's Umm Suqeim Road that connects Al Khail Road with Sheikh Zayed Road is being turned into an expressway, complete with service roads and two dual three-lane flyovers, Gulf News has reported. The 2.5km expressway will ease traffic and help residents of Al Barsha, Al Khail and Al Quoz, who currently experience long traffic jams. The upgrade, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, is part of the expanding network of the Parallel Roads project, said the RTA.HYUNDAI ENGINEERING WON $300M QATAR PORT DEAL: Qatar's New Port Project Steering Committee has awarded Hyundai Engineering and Construction a $300.82m contract to build a port and related facilities in the country after forming a consortium with the Middle East unit of Boskalis, a Netherlands-based company, and Brazilian firm OAS, Korea Joongang Daily has reported. Hyundai will build port facilities and an access channel at Qatar Economic Zone 3, which will be 25km south from Doha.
